TimelyBills supports a feature called "Category Mapping" for online account transactions (transactions that are automatically available through a bank connection). Category mapping once configured is used by the app in the future. Here is the explanation of how it works
1. On click of the 'Change Category' button (available only for online account transactions), a pop with the name "Category Mapping " appears.
2. This popup allows the user to create category mapping for past, current, and future transactions (using different options as described below)
- This Only: Apply category change rule for a specific selected transaction only
- This & All future: Apply category change rule for this transaction as well for all future occurrences.
- Past, This, and All Future: Apply the category change rule for all past current, and future transactions.
3. Now whenever a new transaction is shared by the Bank account automatically with the TimelyBills platform, the category mapping is checked in the order below
- Category + Merchant -> To category: If the category and merchant of any incoming transaction match, the category is updated to the new category.
- Merchant -> To category: If the merchant of any incoming transaction matches, the category is updated to the new category.
- Category -> To Category: If the category of any incoming transaction matches, the category is updated to the new category.
