How can I create a category based budget?

TimelyBills supports category-based budgeting, allowing you to track spending on one or more specific categories, whether for personal use or as part of a group budget. Refunds related to the selected categories are also included in the budget tracking for more accurate insights.

Follow these steps to create a category-based budget:


1. Navigate to
Go to Home > Budget, then tap the ‘+’ icon in the top right corner


2. Choose Budget Type
Select either a Personal or Group budget.


3. Select Budget Nature
Choose whether it’s an Income or Expense budget.


4. Enter Budget Details
Fill in key details like:
  • Budget name
  • Image (optional)
  • Budget amount
  • Repeat frequency (monthly, one-time, etc.)
  • Category
  • Linked account (if needed)
  • Rollover toggle
  • Spending alert threshold

Tap Next to continue


5. Select Categories
Choose one or more categories that you want to include in this budget.


6. Review & Confirm
Double-check all the budget settings.


7. Finalize Budget
Tap Create Budget to finalize and activate it.



Category budgets consider all expenses and respective refund transactions, if any (income transactions marked as a refund for the specified expense category).

Family/Group budgeting is part of the Pro Subscription.
