How do I set up a family group in TimelyBills?

Managing family finances just got easier! Create a shared budget, track family expenses, and allow each member to contribute to your family’s financial goals—all by setting up a Family Group in TimelyBills.


Start a New Group

If you didn’t choose family budgeting during onboarding, you can set it up now by following these steps:


  1. On the 'Home Screen', Tap on 'Menu' on top right of the screen.
  2. Select 'Family Group'.
  3. Select 'Start a new group'.
  4. Share the code by tapping on the ‘Share Code’ Button. Share this code with anyone you want to join your TimelyBills group using any sharing option available on your phone.
  5. When someone joins using the shared code, your group will be created successfully. The app will now prompt you to sign in again to access the group data.
  6. After signing in, you will see a toggle to switch between ‘Group Mode’ and ‘Personal Mode’.


Join an Existing Group

  1. On the Home Screen, Tap on Menu on the top right of the screen.
  2. Select 'Family Group'.
  3. Select 'Join an existing group'.
  4. Enter the 'invitation code' you have received and tap the ‘Join’ Button.
  5. After validating the invitation code, you will see the group details screen. On this page, verify the members with whom you are joining the group, click the ‘Next’ button.

    Note: If you're a new user and don’t have any data in the app, steps 6 to 8 will not be available for you. You can go directly to step 9.

  6. On the Share Account screen, you'll see all the accounts you've added to the TimelyBills app. Uncheck any accounts you don't wish to share with the group, then click ‘Next’. 

    Note: This includes any goals you've created in the app, as goals are automatically considered accounts.

  7. On the 'Share Transaction' screen, you’ll have the option to share expense transactions within the group. If you prefer not to share transactions, simply deselect the option, then click ‘Next’.
  8. On the 'Share Bill screen', select any bills you wish to share with the group, then click ‘Next’.
  9. On the Review screen, you can see all the data you're sharing with the group. Review it carefully. 

    Note that you can update your sharing preferences at any time in the future. Finally, tap ‘Join’.

  10. Congratulations! You've successfully joined the group. The app will now prompt you to sign in again to access the group data.
  11. After signing in, you will see a toggle to switch between ‘Group Mode’ and ‘Personal Mode’.
